Later, we are going to show how great was the FIDAE event for the project as a whole, but for now, let see how we do all preparations..
As we mention on other post, the FIDAE 2012 is the biggest aerospace event in Latin America, with more than 70 countries showing his aeronautical and space research and products. The event attract more than 170.000 visitors!!!.
From like 3 or 4 months, our project and the Angelicum Team is getting a lot of cover on country wide newspaper and in the biggest news channels. All this cover, make us possible to be invited to FIDAE!! and this is how we prepare for it, making all the necessary things to be ready for the event. On a previous post, we cover how we make the "lunar surface" platform to show the rover on the stand, now let see the rover preparations itself...This work cover a period from Monday 19 to Thursday 22 of May...a week before FIDAE...
As usual, on Monday it start *easy", "Let move forward the Alfredo's balance algorithm to show it working on FIDAE, plus let do some robot covers again using our shinny new CNC and 3D plastic printer"...Of course on the way things gets lot more complicated...Murphy's fault more than anything :-) ....So, let start with some basic calculations and considerations as in the last couple of pictures..
So, on next pictures, we can see Alba and Pablo doing some cover plastic plates calculations to accommodate all the needed switch, LEDs, etc.
In the meantime, Carlos was in charge of "negotiate" with the MakerBot 3D printer what to do...It seems like Murphy like to play with us, and this time there was not the exception. After spending a couple of weeks learning how to work with the 3D printer all seems to move ok, of course that was just before really need the printer for the real jobs...
Here a couple of videos with the guys working and the printer trying to do...mmm, something :-) :
In the meantime, some progresses with the Balance code:
...But watch out!!, the printer is doing something weird with the spur plastic cable roll!!!...and the result...an incredible long plastic cable roll need to be extended to clear up the mess and roll it back!!! :-S
Jonathan y Alfredo took the job...
But wait, not all is bad, the food is here!!! :-)
This was our main food for the next couple of days...beside lunch, this highly sugared food keep us Up and Running :-)
...It seems that even me have to work in such desperate times :-) ...sadly I was forced to milling some plastic covers by hand!!
...well, nothing better that a bunch of plastic dust in the morning!
But, don't worry, I get my revenge...those plastics covers needs to get painted :-) ...so:
Well, guys never forget to get fun, so Alba and Pablo take the opportunity to explore the artist that all engineers have inside...with the labs cloths... :-P
In the meantime, Jonathan and Sebastian was working in the new Micro-Dandelion that we want to show in FIDAE too...Oscar was working in a new cover closure mechanism...
One scary part, was on Wednesday 21 around 17hrs, this was the state of the rover on that time!!!:
Just a metal box with two motors inside and just 48hrs on front for the trip to Santiago!!! (FIDAE start on Tuesday 27 of May, so we trip to Santiago on Friday 23).
The next summary of pictures and videos shows the assembly and test work for the rover that end up around 1:30AM of Thursday 22, so lets work!
...still more assembly to do...
...the time move on...more analysis needed..
At 1AM almost all was ready for a test..and it works (sadly not in video :-( ..
Guys still with energy to be funny and also put some order in the lab..:
The actual test was later the same day. We take the Auburn visit to our University as the oportunity to show the last work on the rover:
They get very impressed and interesting in the project and the unique robot design...so all goes good at the end..As usual we start with little goals and Murphy make us realize how funny is to work under preasure :-) ...but the REAL guys was up to the challenge as usual...Congrats to the whole team!!
