The guys at the selling department (Jay) is very nice and they have a very good support service, Jay was very nice to explain me all the chair features and how to buy from Chile and all the process.
Next a couple of pictures of my chair when just came out of the box and then in use at the GLXP Team Summit 2013 (Google Lunar X PRIZE competition annual event), I'm "Chief Rover Development" at the AngleicvM Team (the Chilean team on the competition):
Here is the chair opened...
and the chair folded...very small right?
Here I'm at the left with the chair at the GLXP event in the Hyatt hotel in Santiago, Chile...
On the next pictures I was on the house of "Pablo Neruda" (Novel price poet from Chile) in "Valaparaiso" (a port city near to Santiago), the house is now a museum and it was a nice trip that we made after the Summit event...
It was a kind of raw terrain, nevertheless the chair behave well considering his size...
I also want to share some of pictures about a couple of "adjustments" that I made to the chair to feel more comfortable with it, just in case someone find it useful:
The first one is a simple "barrette" or "lock" mechanism for the foot rest mechanism. The chair folds the foot rest to back when the chair is closed, which is good to keep it small, but at least in my case, when I add some weight with my foots on the foot rest, the plate tend to folds back, which was not good for me...To solve it a simple barrette hold the piece in place when the chair is "open" or extended.
Also in my case, the foot rest was to "back" for me, I can't bend my knees too much and by design the wheelchair foot rest was pointing to the back to the chair. My first attempt was to flip it over, but that don't work, so the easy solution was to add a second plate that with a simple hinge gets folded.
At the right a picture of the additional plate extended...
And at the left a picture of the plate folded (it can be completely folded, here is partially folded to better understanding of the solution), it doesn't take more room on the chair folded since it actually have an space on that area and it add little more weight.
In summary, is a great chair that can need some minor adjustments from case to case as usual for us with disabilities when we buy something that we need. May be the manufacture can address this issues in the next version if they fit a large number of users.
The strong point of the chair is to be light and small, as is publicized on the website, consider that is a small chair, so don't expect an amazing performance for out-of-door, because the reduced wheels size can get easily in troubles if you find breaks or uneven terrains, nevertheless, you still can take it outside and is going to behave fairly. The chair is specially designed for indoor use where it behave excellent it is very fast actually and it show very good power, I definitely tested on slopes of more than 12° (as specified and it doesn't show any problem to climb up. Perhaps on a next version the rear wheels can be a little more big or at least more wide since in very clean ceramic floors it tends to slide a little sometimes.
Another small update that can be made it, is to add some kind of suspension mechanism for the front wheels or perhaps change it to something a little more "soft", because the chair have the power to overcome pinhole obstacles, but the front wheels just block the movements most of the times in this situations...but again, that's on outdoor use, which is the not main purpose of the chair....
The battery is absolutely great!, it hold a complete day going everywhere, I also take trips of 10km or 15km total without any problem and it charge very quick, 3hrs or 4hrs and you are up to go again!...
So, I definitely recommend this chair for someone that, like me, need to travel a lot and it can't use a regular manual wheelchair, it gives you independence, which is something precious for us. Is light and small, so no airline is going to make you any problem to take it with you on your travels and at the price of a little more of USD2k is became an amazing deal!.
Next I going to bring it to the SpaceTechExpo in California, USA, at the end of May, so stay tune for more update about the chair! ;-)
